I wonder, with new colors, when the Wopex will be made available in the USA. They were listed on Dick Blick and then removed promptly. I hope Staedtler remembers its fans on this side of the ocean. :)
Oh wow! Must…resist…don’t need more pencils
John: I am sorry to hear that the new WOPEX isn’t available in the USA but I hope that it is only a matter of time.
Stationery Traffic: Don’t worry – there is no such thing as too many pencils :-)
On the bright side, Staedtler has a wider variety of pencils and accessories available at „regular“ stores now. I found some very handsome Noricas (matte black with a white eraser) there a few weeks ago.
As far as I know the STAEDTLER branches are quite independent so sometimes their ranges have surprising differences (just look at the drawing accessories offered by STAEDTLER Japan). – I have seen the Noricas on your weblog – they look great!
Gunther, are the black eraser-tipped Norica pencils available in Germany? I am happy to send you some. :)
No, these aren’t available in Germany so I would be very happy to get some. Thank you, John! :-)
Excellent! Can you please email me your mailing address? :)
Yes, of course! Sent :-)
The green Wopex has been on the Toronto market for a while now. I think I saw eraser tipped ones recently.
Gunther, have you seen Wopex with ferrule and eraser in Germany?

Claire, I found these on Amazon US: http://www.amazon.com/Staedtler-Graphite-Eco-Pencil-18241BK10-NA/dp/B00DYVV12I/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1376181554&sr=8-3&keywords=wopex
Mine are out for delivery Monday! I hope we get more colors. The yellow ones with erasers are especially attractive, with the nice, black print.
Claire: On this year’s Paperworld the Noris eco has been introduced. It is actually a WOPEX, both without (Noris eco 180 30) and with ferrule and eraser (Noris eco 182 30). However, I haven’t seen them in the stores yet.
John: This version seems to be a special one for the US market (just like the yellow one).
I haven’t seen the yellow version around, which is surprising, given our country’s fondness for that pencil color. :)
Staedtler is…stingy with their USA releases usually. We don’t get the basic Noris, for instance. But I’m glad that the Wopex, the Norica and something else new and interesting (which is in the package I’m sending you!) are available here now. Maybe Staedtler will release more pencils in the USA in the near future! :)
I am very suprised to hear that Staedtler USA doesn’t offer the basic Noris – I hope that this will change someday!
Thanks for the info on Noris Eco.
My bad, the eraser tipped pencils I saw were not Wopex but „woodless pencils“, „extruded graphite“. These were made in Brazil in 2012. Wonder how popular they are.
John: Hi, I just saw your previous reply. Maybe Wopex is indeed what I saw… Do you happen to have seen them in store as well? I got the impression that north America is pretty fond of the eraser tip as well, along with the yellow barrel.
Gunther: Having the Staedtler north American distributor in town doesn’t seem to offer much advantage. In terms of Noris, I have only seen one retailer offering them by a dozen in a tin box. Tradition used to be a rare find in grandpa stores, but since earlier this month a chain store started carrying them.
Claire, I don’t think that these pencils were WOPEX since the WOPEX is not made in Brazil but in Nürnberg. – By the way, there have been quite few attempts to produce extruded pencils; see „Der EPCON-Bleistift“. – Re the Noris: I am happy to hear that this classic pencil is now easily available to you.
